Of Casinos & Porn

Contrary to popular belief, I did not get eaten by a pack of African lions. I did come very close to one tho' (click for lion pic). I am very much alive - all limbs accounted for. Sorry to dissappoint y'all, haha. Photos of South Africa will be up in the next posting. In the meantime, checkout my latest rant below:

As expected, the Spore government announced its decision on casinos in Spore. No big surprises there. A resounding yes. Yawn... they have been trying so hard to ease the yes decision onto the public, weeks before the decision is officially announced - trying so hard that it's no surprise when they announced (anti-climatic to say the least). The only surprise is that they are going for TWO casinos, one in Sentosa & one in Marina!!! WAH LAOS!!! Damn greedy lor...Malaysia so big only got ONE... Is Spore biting off more than wat it can chew??? Hmm, time will tell....

For any budding politicians out there, this casino thingy is an important case study - how to force your dictatorship and make it look like it's the public's decision. Checkout how they did it, compiled into 10 easy steps:

1) Big Boss Lee says: Hmmm, we should have a casino cos economy is stagnating, proposed Sentosa make-over is not working out, the ppl across the Causeway (Genting) are earning big bucks, Macau is Las Vegas of the East, Sporeans paying crazy money for casino trips to Australia etc. Why should Sporeans throw their money to our neighbours when they can deposit them into the Lee Corp! Time to get a piece of the action!!!

2) Idea is hinted in parliament meetings or some interviews by some high ranking minister

3) Big heated public debate - over newspapers & tv, special programmes on national tv debating idea of casinos

4) Decision is split as the population starts to take sides: puritans, moms, religious grps form the bulk of the anti-casino ppl (about 5 to 10% of total population). Rest are all pro-casino -hahaha

5) Government talks about it more, announces that they will convene to decide, sets deadline for announcing their decision, then proceed to do nothing...

6) Population still debating non-stop, ppl it's getting really lame... maybe Sporeans just like to complain...

7) Government releases studies to show that Singaporeans start gambling young (on toto, 4d, horses) and out of 10 gamblers, only 2 are addicts, blah, blah, blah... Minister claims it's just a coincidence that the study is so near the announce dates....yeah rite who you trying to kid....

8) Newspapers publish articles detailing 'benefits' of casinos (tourism, creation of jobs) while down-playing the adverse effects of gambling

9) Near to announce dates, ministers get interviewed more & more about casinos, some 'wayward' politicians are against the idea...one cant help but suspect that they drew lots to take on the roles of the good conservative family politician...must have good cop & bad cop mah....

10) After months of deliberation (yeah rite....), the decision is announced (it's YES lah...duh!) & it's TWO casinos (wow! what ambition!) - government said decision is made based on public feedback - effectively shifting the blame (if any) to those pro-casino part of the population...some WEAKASS preventive measures are included (to placate the anti-casino ppl) like family can ask casinos to ban if family members turns into addict, high entrance fees for Sporeans & PRs...WAH LAOS, how weak is that...you want to do, "DO IT RIGHT - DON'T DO IT ABIT ABIT, HALFWAY THIS, HALFWAY THAT"...thats so cock...

Ultimately the anti-casino groups gets disappointed, their time & efforts have gone down the drain. These ppl never learn one...time & time & time...keep on falling for it...

I'm not against the casino, I'm all for it. It's the way the government went about it that irks me.....not that it's underhanded & despicable (thats politiks, just gotta live with it), it's the way they did it...it's SO OBVIOUS!!! I mean WAH LAOS....I'm sure I'm not the only one...u mean Sporeans are so dense as to NOT see it??!?!?!

For wat it's worth, Spore is becoming more liberal and this will ultimately pave the way for the legalisation of PORN....dun laugh, it's gonna come, just you wait...the PORN industry is so HUGE...wait long long, surely with come...

Alrite kids, that's all for today... ending quote: "tan ku ku - live by it"

No man, even my 50-yr-old Auntie whose main job is to take care of my 2 little nieces and gossip at the C.C. (while the 2 little devils attend PAP kindergarten) KNEW FOR DAMN SURE it's a YES decision.

Good exercise in listing out the steps - excellent case study for our scholar friends in the civil service - all budding DR VIVIANs.
