Game Reviews

Dungeon Siege 2 (PC)
I was quite surprised that this 3D game runs on my ol' laptop...maybe it's becos I played it on the lowest settings...u can never be too careful, especially when u are away from home & all ur shit is in the little crappy company laptop....that and the fact that the laptop is actually designed for work, not for gaming...

The 1st Dungeon Siege was pretty cool, it sorta contributed a few new features to the medieval fantasy RPG gaming scene...Dungeon Siege 2 did improved on its predecessor but I dun think it's that great...yeah, the new features were pretty cool (eg. getting pet dragons etc. & nurturing them to maturity) but they seem like add-ons to the 1st game and did not give the sequel feel that I was expecting...and the ending was kinda crappy...

Took me about a week to complete the game. There were options to continue playing it at harder levels but decided not to do it cos it's basically the same story but with more enemy mobs with bigger health etc...so where's the challenge...

Anyways, it managed to satisfy my dungeon crawling role-playing urges.....sometimes, you really just wanna walk around in dark, damp dirty dungeons, decapitate some goblins & throw some fireballs at evil skeletons....

In short, it's fun but not fantastic...

The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction (PS2)
Just started playing this game last night...

Imagine leaping several miles with a single jump, picking up huge items and hurling them at army copters & tanks, ability to bring down buildings with single punch.....Ultimate Destruction!!!

I was jumping from one skyscraper to another fighting off helicopters ala King Kong on Empire State building....The game is so kickass that I slept at 2am last nite...

More impressions when I finish leveling the whole cityscape with my makeshift smashed tank bat....

Winning Eleven 9 (PS2)
Also started on this one last night.....

The Winning Eleven series is the world's most realistic 3D action-simulation. There is simply no competition.

Most ppl tend to compare EA Sports' FIFA series to Konami's Winning Eleven. But FIFA is built on an arcade gameplay while realism is the key factor in Winning Eleven.

But when realism is the main design objective, Konami is threading on thin ice becos if they make it too realistic, they might risk spoiling the fun factor...That was my 1st impression of WE9.....frustrating.....

Konami made major changes to the gameplay, making it the most realistic version to-date. But in doing so, they are forcing seasoned players like myself to delete our previous WE skills and learn new ones. The ball physics are changed, new passing dynamics require you to hold the ball more & make your passes more efficient (which is not really a bad thing haha...my style of play is more of quick 1 touch-passing)

The biggest problem I have is the fouls. Fouls come too easy. Your old way of defending doesn't work anymore. Opposing team players will go to ground at the slightest hint of pressure...The ref blows at almost every challenge. Which means I have to re-work my defending...it sucks cos the flow of the game tend to be distrupted by the fouls....

But if you have the patience and can invest some time to re-learn the game, all is not lost. Persevere and you'll reap in the rewards of a rich simulation of the world's favourite sport.

I'm gonna give it a go again tonite, but I have no doubts that WE9 is the best iteration of the series yet.
